As a company limited by guarantee and registered charity, CommunityAction Blaby District is governed by a board of directors. The board is made up entirely of volunteers, sixteen in all, who come from across the District. They bring a wide range of knowledge, many of them having lived locally for much or all of their lives. They have varied professional backgrounds from head teachers to business managers and community workers. They are all committed to a thriving local voluntary and community sector.

The chair of the board is Mr John Troake who can be contacted through our office.

Andrew oversees all activities of CommunityAction Action Blaby District and reports to the board. In conjunction with the board and our full range of partners he has responsibility for developing and delivering the long term objectives of the organisation in support of the voluntary and community sector in the District. He works with the Community Hub Manager and Services Manager to oversee the delivery of our services to individuals and organisations. Andrew  provides the link between the District and the wider voluntary and community sector in Leicestershire and beyond. Andrew also takes the lead for the Healthy and Stronger Communitites theme of the Blaby Together Local Strategic Partnership.

COMMUNITY HUB MANAGER

Maxine oversees the community and volunteering activities of CommunityAction Action Blaby District including our befriending service for older people. Maxine is also responsible for maintaining productive links with partners in the voluntary, community and statutory sectors in Blaby District and supporting the Blaby District Older Person’s Forum.

BLABY DISTRICT BEFRIENDERS

Teresa Lee, Befriending Organiser
Teresa provides support to physically frail or socially isolated older people through the recuitment and placement of volunteer befrienders.

Maria provides administration support to Teresa and acts as a point of contact for both volunteer befrienders and service users.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Karri Aston, Community Development Organiser
The Community development organiser supports and enables local community groups and voluntary organisations through the provision of information, guidance and funding advice. This post also includes neighbourhood management, and promotes and administers Blaby District Council’s Community Development Grants.

Darren Walker, Stronger Communities Organiser
This role is funded through a countywide initiative under the Local Area Agreement for Leicestershire. It aims to encourage and support individuals, groups and communities to take part in community activity. The work is primarily in the neighbourhoods of  Enderby, Braunstone Town, Whetstone and Sharnford.

COMMUNITY TRANSPORT

Christine Thomas, Community Transport Manager 
Christine oversees the provision of community transport for people in Blaby District who are unable to access public transport. The service is provided by volunteer drivers and minibus. Christine also oversees the financial management of the service.

Alex Lewis, Jane Parr and Melanie Daniels, Organisers
Alex, Jane and Melanie organise journeys for passengers across the District by liaising with a large team of volunteer drivers. The people who use the service can be elderly, disabled or unable to use public transport for other reasons. Jane is also responsible for the minibus service for shopping trips to Fosse Park which operates fortnightly on Thursday mornings for passengers living in Kirby Muxloe and Leicester Forest East.

CARER’S SUPPORT

Sandra Stocks, Carers Development Co-ordinator
Sandra works with people who care for others, usually on a long term basis, through the provision of information, facilitation of the District Carer’s Forum and organisation of social activities where carers can meet together and share their experiences. Sandra also liaises with statutory agencies and a countywide network to raise the profile of carers’ issues.

The carers development organiser assists the Carers Development Co-ordinator in the delivery of support to carers who live within the Blaby District area.

MENTAL HEALTH

Annette oversees our mental health services, which provide a range of support and activities for people in the Blaby district, Oadby & Wigston, and Lutterworth areas who are experiencing mental health difficulties.

Alison, Ellen, Eleanor, Lydia and Stacey run the Social Drop Ins across Blaby District, Lutterworth and Oadby & Wigston in support of adults experiencing mental health difficulties.

Annette and Alison organise the provision of one-to-one support from volunteer befrienders for people experiencing mental ill health in their own homes.

BIG LOTTERY SPORTING CHANGE

Abdul Asghar, Team Leader
Abdul is responsible for leading the delivery team of our new Big Lottery-funded project, which provides physical activities for people with mental ill-health and other vulnerable adults across Blaby District, Oadby and Wigston, and the Lutterworth area.

Team members; Vicky Saunders, Joe Chaney, Eleanor Blackwell and Alexa Newark
Vicky and Eleanor organise and run sports sessions and other activities, including countryside walks, from various venues across the area giving people any support they need. They also encourage and guide people to take part in mainstream activities when they feel able. Joe continues to run gardening sessions for people with mental health difficulties at our community garden, A Place To Grow, as well as continuing with his other role as the garden’s co-ordinator. Alexa provides admin support to the team and service users as well as running some of the activities.

A PLACE TO GROW

Joe Chaney, Co-ordinator
Joe runs our award winning two-and-a-half-acre fully accessible community garden in Enderby. It offers opportunities for individuals with mental health difficulties and other disabilities to get involved in organic gardening activities. Other local community groups and organisations have their own plots, including a children’s garden within the site. Contact us if you would like to get involved in any way.
