Community Action Blaby District is a volunteer involving organisation, one of the largest in the Blaby District area. Community Action Blaby District endeavours to ensure that volunteering is a positive experience for everyone and is firmly committed to ensuring that differing ideas, abilities, backgrounds and needs are valued and that those with diverse backgrounds and experiences are able to participate and contribute to its work.
Volunteering is a great way to gain experience, fill a few spare hours, meet new people or develop some new skills.
Community Action Blaby District has a wide range of volunteering opportunities available across its services and details of the current vacancies are listed below:
BLABY DISTRICT BEFRIENDERS:
Community Action Blaby District operates a scheme for visiting older, sometimes vulnerable and lonely people in their own home or residential/nursing care.
Volunteer befrienders: are introduced to individual clients in their local area undertaking social visits for approximately one hour to provide a listening ear, companionship, information and support, usually on a weekly basis.
COMMUNITY TRANSPORT:
Community Action Blaby District provides accessible transport for Blaby District residents who are unable to use public transport.
Car Drivers: transport clients in your own vehicles to and from identitifed locations i.e. shopping trips, social visits, doctor’s appointments or library trips. A full driving licence is needed to undertake this role.
Mini-bus Drivers: drive Community Action Blaby District’s mini bus and tranpsort clients on organised journeys. A valid driving licence is needed and MIDAS training is provided for all mini-bus drivers prior to commencing this role. There is a minimum age limit of 25 years for this role.
Mini-bus passenger assistant: provides support and assistance to the mini-bus driver through the coordination of passengers from their pick up and drop off points on the organised journeys.
Mini-bus maintenance: to undertake weekly vehicle maintenance checks and ensure that quarterly inspections, 6 monthly checks of the passenger lift and annual MOTs are undertaken at a local garage. As this role will require the mini-bus to be driven by the volunteers a valid driving licence will be required, MIDAS training will be provided and there will be a minimum age limit of 25 years for this role.
GENERAL OPPORTUNITIES:
Community Action Blaby District operates a busy office at the Pavilion, Huncote in support of all its services as well as hosting meetings, events and community drop ins.
Hospitality Assistants: assist us at our events and community drop ins by setting up and running a coffee bar. Variable amounts of time may be required in this role. Food hygiene training would be offered to any volunteers undertaking this role.
Administration Support: to assist in the general running of the office by the maintaining of a database, minute taking in Forum meetings, photocopying, reception duties, i.e receiving telephone calls and message taking. This opportunity based at the Pavilion, Huncote would provide experience for anyone wishing to gain new skills or increase existing ones.
Promotion and Marketing Support: to design and produce promotional materials i.e. leaflets, flyers, posters and maintain display boards and leaflet containers at the Pavilion.
A PLACE TO GROW:
Community Action Blaby District in partnership with Blaby District Council runs a community garden based at Mill Lane, Enderby. The garden is accessible to everyone and the current project being undertaken at the garden is the completion of a sensory garden section.
Garden Supporters: to provide encouragement and support where necessary to users of the garden and assist in the cultivation of fruit, vegetables and other plants, help in the general upkeep of the site and maintenance of tools and equipment.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT:
Community Action Blaby District provides support to local groups through the provision of information and access to grants.
Community Group Supporters: to visit and assist local groups and organisations to complete funding applications. Training and support will be given to anyone undertaking this role which may take place throughout the Blaby District area.
MENTAL HEALTH:
Community Action Blaby District runs a mental health service providing support to adults experiencing mental health difficulties.
Catering Assistants: to assist at Drop Ins at Blaby and Huncote by setting up and running a coffee bar providing hot and cold drinks and light snacks.
Activity Volunteers: to run activity sessions i.e. craft activities in the weekly drop ins across Blaby District, Lutterworth or Oadby & Wigston and encourage participation in the activities.
Mini-bus driver: to transport clients to activity drop in groups based at the Pavilion, Huncote. A valid driving licence will be required, MIDAS training will be provided and there will be a minimum age limit of 25 years for this role.
Mini-bus passenger escort: provides support and assistance to the mini-bus driver through the coordination of passengers from their pick up and drop off points on the organised journeys.
Social Drop In Assistants: will assist staff in providing support to adults experiencing mental health difficulties and encourage participation in the group’s activities.
Mental Health Befriender: will meet with a service user on a regular basis to provide support and and take part in activities.
Performing Arts Group Assistant: to encourage users of the service to take part in drama activities, singing classes and creative writing.
All volunteers at Community Action Blaby District undergo Criminal Record Bureau disclosures (formerly known as police checks) and reference checks.
Out of pocket expenses, as agreed by the organisation, are offered to volunteers undertaking tasks on behalf of Community Action Blaby District.
